The Red Spotted Severum Cichlid (Heros severus) is a popular, medium-sized cichlid native to South America, where it lives in calm, slow-moving waters. As juveniles, they are gold but develop bright red spots as they mature. Ideal conditions include:
- Temperature: 72° - 84° F (22° - 29° C)
- pH: 5.5 - 7.2
- KH: 1 - 8
- Minimum tank size: 75 gallons for one, 125+ gallons for a group
These mild-mannered cichlids make great additions to large aquariums.
