Red Nerite Snail
The Red Nerite Snail (Neritina natalensis), also known as the Red Onion Nerite Snail, is a beautiful freshwater snail known for its reddish-brown shell with unique markings. Native to rivers and coastal waters in Africa, this snail grows up to 1 inch (2.5 cm) and thrives in well-planted aquariums with stable water parameters. Ideal conditions include:
- Temperature: 22° - 28° C (72° - 82° F)
- pH: 7.0 - 8.5
- KH: 6 - 12 dKH
- Minimum tank size: 10 gallons
Red Nerite Snails are peaceful and highly effective at controlling algae, making them excellent tank cleaners. They do not reproduce in freshwater, so there’s no risk of overpopulation. Their attractive shell patterns, ease of care, and algae-eating capabilities make them a popular choice for any freshwater aquarium.
